Name: Flowers and Filtration: Rio Grande Wetland Walk
Date: June 21, 2018
Time: 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM MDT
Event Description:
The Rio Grande Park Stormwater Improvement Project is a beautiful, one of a kind engineered wetland in the heart of downtown Aspen. Its location, on the edge of downtown along the banks of the Roaring Fork River, is ideal for treating the City’s stormwater before it reaches the river. Join April Long, Stormwater Manager for the City of Aspen, and staff from Roaring Fork Conservancy to learn how this state-of-the-art filtration system, modeled after Mother Nature’s ability to “clean” by using proper soil and vegetation, reduces pollutants in the Roaring Fork River by 96% from a third of the city’s storm drain system – that’s the equivalent of about 15 dump trucks worth of material each year! This program is appropriate for ages 12 years and older. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Please dress appropriately as the program will happen rain or shine. Please call (970) 927-1290 with questions.
