Event Description:
FIRST MENORAH TO BE LIT IN BASALT’S LIONS PARK
THE PUBLIC ARE INVITED TO AN INTER-FAITH CEREMONY
& LIGHTING TO TAKE PLACE TUESDAY, DECEMBER 16 AT 5:15

The Town of Basalt and Basalt Chamber of Commerce is pleased to invite the community to an inter-faith ceremony to celebrate the beginning of Chanukah, also known as The Festival of Lights. The event will take place on Tuesday, December 16 at 5:15 p.m. in Lions Park in Historic Downtown Basalt.

This week, the Town's first outdoor menorah will be installed next to the Town Hall, Chamber Caboose and holiday tree in Lions Park. Rabbi David Segal of the Aspen Jewish Congregation will preside over the lighting ceremony. Please arrive by 5:15pm and dress warmly.

The Town and Chamber would like to acknowledge Rabbi Mendel Mintz for helping to secure the 9-foot menorah, and to Rabbi Baruch Klar and Devorah Klar at menorah.net in New Jersey for their ready assistance. Rabbi Klar created the design for the original menorah 32 years ago and now distributes world-wide. The menorah is an elegant structure, suitable for indoor and outdoor use, and includes an innovative PCB Board which lights a new candle every 24 hours.

Thanks also go to Rabbi David Segal and the Aspen Jewish Congregation, the Jewish Community Center, and the Neshama Center for their support of this special occasion, and especially to Bennett Bramson who joined in the planning as the last of his many contributions to the community before relocating this week to California. Matthew Harrington has again generously offered to contribute and set up the sound system for the evening.

Chanukah is an eight-day Festival of Lights beginning on the Hebrew calendar date of 25 Kislev which falls this year on December 17 until December 24 in the evening. The menorah in Basalt will automatically light each night of Chanukah.

THE PUBLIC IS WELCOME TO SET-UP FOR HOT DRINKS AND REFRESHMENTS.
NO ALCOHOL MAY BE BROUGHT INTO THE PARK.
