SUMMARY:Weaving with the Ute: Stories\, Materials & Place
DESCRIPTION:What can a piece of woven thread tell us about people\, place\, and history?\n\nIn this hands-on workshop for children\, we'll begin by learning about the Ute people\, the Indigenous people of the land we call Colorado\, and exploring the ways Indigenous peoples have used natural materials\, textiles\, patterns\, and handmade objects to express creativity\, identity\, and connection to place.\n\nEach child will receive a small tabletop loom and learn the basic techniques of weaving. We'll experiment with color\, texture\, and pattern as we create individual woven pieces to take home.\n\nAlong the way\, children will learn that Indigenous cultures are not one single tradition. We'll focus on listening\, observing\, and appreciating the knowledge and creativity of the Ute people while making our own contemporary creations inspired by the idea of weaving connections to people\, to place\, and to one another.\n\nNo previous experience is needed. This workshop is designed to be playful\, creative\, and accessible for young children while encouraging respect and curiosity about the Indigenous history of our local area.\n\n\n Qu puede contarnos una pieza de tejido de hilos sobre la gente\, los lugares y la historia?
