Name: Sustainable Communities Book Club: "The Seed Underground" by Janisse Ray
Date: April 10, 2019
Time: 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM MDT
Event Description:
A book club for the readers and thinkers in our community who are dedicated to exploring the tough and often controversial topics that affect our personal lives and local communities right here, right now. Some titles will be light and hopeful, others will be heavy and dour -- but all promise to be thought provoking. Reading selection and details for Wed, April 10 meeting: Participants should come prepared by pre-reading, "The Seed Underground: A Growing Revolution to Save Food" by Janisse Ray. "Across the country, a renaissance of local-food, local-farming, and place-based culinary traditions is taking hold. And yet something small, critically important, and profoundly at risk is being overlooked in this local-food resurgence: seeds. We are losing our seeds. Of the thousands of seed varieties available at the turn of the 20th century, 94 percent have been lost -- forever." NOTE: There are 12 copies of this book in the library catalog, spread across a number of libraries in our system. It would be wise to put a hold on the book as soon as you can in order to get it with enough time to read prior to our book club meeting. basalt.marmot.org/Record/.b35637316?searchId=92996895&recordIndex=1&page=1
